Yet again the absence of the long overdue Local Plan puts Epsom’s most precious areas at irreversible peril.
This is a wholly inappropriate application seeking to separately demolish an historic building on the corner of West Street and Station Approach.
This proposal would not have been possible if the Borough had not put off updating the Local Plan since 2007.
The Epsom Civic Society said “A separate Planning Application has been submitted for the demolition works on this very controversial site. The main application includes the demolition works and that is where
it should remain for approval purposes."
The recent Gilded Living Proposal which is going ahead on the Epsom Hospital Site was a direct consequence of the Borough’s failures and we have a plethora of inappropriate applications in hot pursuit.
We desperately need housing, and the Epsom Conservatives have a coherent, ambitious plan to regenerate the Kiln Lane and Longmead area with affordable housing and commercial opportunities.
As Epsom Civic Society said, "Please can we learn from all of our experiences at The Guild Living site and refuse or get this demolition application withdrawn."
